Twelve Steps with Scripture
      Step 7
Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my
fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were
not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard [him], and saved
him out of all his troubles. - Psalm
          34:4-6
        Matthew
          18:4
Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
        Acts
          3:19
Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away,

          John 5:14-15
And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his
will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever
we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours.
       Matthew
          7:7-11
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door
will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks,
finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 Which one of you
would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread, 5 10 or a snake
when he asks for a fish? 11 If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good
gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things
to those who ask him.
       Matthew
          15:22-28
But he did not say a word in answer to her. His disciples came and asked him, "Send
her away, for she keeps calling out after us." 24 He said in reply, "I was
sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 25 But the woman came
and did him homage, saying, "Lord, help me." 26 He said in reply, "It is not
right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs." 27 She said, "Please,
Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters." 28
Then Jesus said to her in reply, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done
for you as you wish." And her daughter was healed from that hour.
       Matthew
          21:21-22
Jesus said to them in reply, "Amen, I say to you, if you have faith and do
not waver, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even
if you say to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' it will
be done. 22 Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive."
        Luke
          18:9-14
He then addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness
  and despised everyone else. 10 "Two people went up to the temple area to pray;
one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee took
up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, 'O God, I thank you that
I am not like the rest of humanity--greedy, dishonest, adulterous--or even
like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole
income.' 13 But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even
raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, 'O God, be merciful
  to me a sinner.' 14 I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former;
for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself
  will be exalted."
        Philippians
          4:19
My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches
  in Christ Jesus.
        Hebrews
          12:5-11
You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: "My son,
  do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him;
6 for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges." 7
Endure your trials as "discipline"; God treats you as sons. For what "son" is
there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are without discipline,
in which all have shared, you are not sons but bastards. 9 Besides this, we
have had our earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them. Should
we not (then) submit all the more to the Father of spirits and live? 10 They
disciplined us for a short time as seemed right to them, but he does so for
our benefit, in order that we may share his holiness. 11 At the time, all discipline
seems a cause not for joy but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit
of righteousness to those who are trained by it.
         James
          4:6
But he bestows a greater grace; therefore, it says: "God resists the proud,
but gives grace to the humble."
        1
          Peter 5:6-7
So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in
due time. 7 Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.
        1
          John 3:4-9
Everyone who commits sin commits lawlessness, for sin is lawlessness. 5 You
know that he was revealed to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6
No one who remains in him sins; no one who sins has seen him or known him.
7 Children, let no one deceive you. The person who acts in righteousness is
righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 Whoever sins belongs to the devil, because
the devil has sinned from the beginning. Indeed, the Son of God was revealed
to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one who is begotten by God commits
sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot sin because he is begotten
  by God.
        1
          John 3:22-24
and receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and
do what pleases him. 23 And his commandment is this: we should believe in the
name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another just as he commanded us.
24 Those who keep his commandments remain in him, and he in them, and the way
we know that he remains in us is from the Spirit that he gave us.
        Psalm
          10:17
You listen, LORD, to the needs of the poor; you encourage them and hear their
  prayers.
        Psalm
          25:8-11
Good and upright is the LORD, who shows sinners the way, 9 Guides the humble
rightly, and teaches the humble the way. 10 All the paths of the LORD are faithful
love toward those who honor the covenant demands. 11 For the sake of your name,
LORD, pardon my guilt, though it is great.
        Psalm
          32:1
Happy the sinner whose fault is removed, whose sin is forgiven.
        Psalm
          32:6-8
Thus should all your faithful pray in time of distress. Though flood waters
threaten, they will never reach them. 7 You are my shelter; from distress you
keep me; with safety you ring me round. Selah 8 I will instruct you and show
you the way you should walk, give you counsel and watch over you.
        Psalm
          34:15
Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
        Psalm
          37:4-6
Find your delight in the LORD who will give you your heart's desire. 5 Commit
your way to the LORD; trust that God will act 6 And make your integrity shine
like the dawn, your vindication like noonday.
        Psalm
          37:23-24
Those whose steps are guided by the LORD; whose way God approves, 24 May stumble,
but they will never fall, for the LORD holds their hand.
        Psalm
          39:7-8
Mere phantoms, we go our way; mere vapor, our restless pursuits; we heap up
stores without knowing for whom. 8 And now, Lord, what future do I have? You
  are my only hope.
        Psalm
          51:1-2

  his affair with Bathsheba.
        Psalm
          51:10
Let me hear sounds of joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
        Psalm
          79:9
Help us, God our savior, for the glory of your name. Deliver us, pardon our
  sins for your name's sake.
        Psalm
          91:14-16
Whoever clings to me I will deliver; whoever knows my name I will set on high.
15 All who call upon me I will answer; I will be with them in distress; I will
deliver them and give them honor. 16 With length of days I will satisfy them
and show them my saving power.
        Psalm
          103:2-5
Bless the LORD, my soul; do not forget all the gifts of God, 3 Who pardons
all your sins, heals all your ills, 4 Delivers your life from the pit, surrounds
